Jamaica Defence Force :: How To Become A Soldier

STEP 1

Complete and submit the online application here

 

STEP 2

Successful applicants are called and advised of testing date

 

STEP 3

Document check and ID verification on testing date.

 

STEP 4

Initial medical screening. Persons with the following medical conditions will be immediately excluded:

  • ASTHMA
  • SCOLIOSIS
  • HERNIA
  • MAJOR ABDOMINAL SURGERY
  • HYPERTENSION/HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE
  • COLOUR VISION DEFICIENCY
  • SICKLE CELL
  • DIABETES
  • HUMAN IMMUNODEFICIENCY VIRUS (HIV)
  • HUMAN T-LYMPHOTROPIC VIRUS (HTLV)
  • HEPATITIS
  • TUBERCOLOSIS
  • SIGNIFICANT DENTAL CARIES (CAVITIES) OR MISALIGNMENT OF TEETH
  • FLAT FEET
  • BONE OR JOINT DEFORMITIES
  • HISTORY OF MENTAL ILLNESS
  • OBESITY
  • ANY OTHER SIGNIFICANT MEDICAL ILLNESS

STEP 5

Recruit Assessment Test. This involves a computer based Mathematics, English and General Knowledge tests. Individuals with CXC passes ranging from 1-3 in Mathematics or English will be exempt from this portion of the test

STEP 6

Recruit Evaluation Fitness Test (REFT). This will determine the candidate’s upper body, core and cardiovascular fitness levels

STEP 7

First Medical Test- This will include X-Rays and blood tests

 

STEP 8

Final Medical Test – This involves more comprehensive medical and dental tests

 

STEP 9

Acceptance Letter received

 

STEP 10

Attestation (final interview and contract signing) and departure for Newcastle Training Depot

 

STEP 11

Begin Basic Training

 

 

STEP 12

Passing Out
