About Portmore Community College
The College opened for classes on January 5, 1992 but was officially opened on February 6, 1992 by then Prime Minister Michael Manley. The initial number of students were 38 and there were 7 members of staff. The college however had strong potential for growth and 9 years later a second campus was opened in Old Harbour in October 2001 on the former premises of the Old Harbour primary school. The growth has continued and today the college is one of the premier providers of education in the parish with over 2500 students and over 140 staff member between both campuses.
At its inception the college on only offered an associate degree, today the college is divided into six departments and offers several associate and bachelor degrees in addition to other certifications.
The first principal was Miss Shirley Whylie and the first Chairman of the Board was Mr. Fitz Jackson. Since then the college has had two other principals Mrs Karen Kennedy (Principal 2005 – 2014) and Mrs. Corrine Richards (Principal 2015 – current). The current board chairman is Rev. Karl Henlin.

Portmore Community College Application Information
At Portmore Community College, applications are accepted all year. However, applications for the September cohort need to be submitted by mid August and applications for the January cohort need to be submitted by mid December. It should be noted that applications are taken in every two years for the Enrolled Assistant Nursing Programme. These are accepted between February to May of the respective year.
